The islands of the Saronic Gulf are the closest to Athens by sea, and their ferries leave from Piraeus, the city's main port.
Piraeus is large, and the boats for these islands do not all berth in the same place. Each company is allocated its own departure gate, which can change, so the gate printed on your ticket or posted by the company on the day matters more than anything written in advance.
Conventional car ferries and high-speed passenger vessels both work this gulf, and they differ in crossing time, in fare and in whether a car can come. The Piraeus – Aegina ferry page covers Saronic Ferries' car ferries, which leave from gate E8.
